To italians living abroad (and particular in Finland).
In Italy there is a petition to hold a referendum to introduce legal euthanasia. The petition runs from July 1st to September 30th 2021. According to the Constitution, in order for holding a demotic referendum it is necessary to reach 500000 signatures (at the moment of writing they collected 230000 signatures, and that without counting the ones collected abroad).
Starting from this week, it is also possible – for the italian people living in Finland and regularly registered to AIRE (Registry of Italians Resident Abroad), to participate to the petition by signing at the Italian Embassy in Helsinki (by appointment, of course). Unlike Italy, the deadline for participating to the petition in Helsinki is friday 9th September 2021, in order to allow us to send the papers back to Italy.
We think it is important to have as much support as we can in order to reach as many people as possible, since we keep finding out that there are lots of people who haven’t heard about this petition, both here and in Italy. That’s why we want to give a shout-out to this important initiative: after all, it’s the very first time the legal euthanasia topic has been dealt seriously and, most important, with serious chances to a real change.
